One of its advantages is that the decision about colour or black/white. While in film photography, you have to decide this by buying the film, in digital photography you take the photo in colour and you change it - if you want to - with photoshop. That only takes two or three clicks.
But though, the decision about black/white or colour - or sepia, to add this, too - is hard. Often, you see photographers who upload both versions to deviantART and want to hear the users' opinions.
In most of these cases, I prefer the black/white one. Black/White photography gives you more freedom in adding contrast, in playing with light and shadow and in focusing on the actual subject.
Referring to portraits, I think black/white is easier. You have no problems with un-unatural skin colours if you increase the contrast or change the colour.
So here's a collection of some great black/white portraits/shoots of people I have found over deviantART. I tried to find a balance between popular and unpopular photos and artists and between street and spontaneous photos and model shoots. Hope you enjoy and find some new favourites
